Request for Scans
Some of Kirby's 188 monster stories have never been reprinted, and some were reprinted with the character's name altered in deference to super-heroes and super-villians with same or similar names.
I intend for Monster Blog to be a complete and accurate archive of these comics. To make that happen, I need help acquiring scans of stories that have never been reprinted, as well as splash pages showing a character's original name.
If you have these comics, access to a scanner, and the desire to help, please contact me. I would appreciate your assistance with this project — and I'll give you credit on this page!

Hi Phil,
I have all the comicbooks you need scans on except 'Yellow Claw'. Anything I can do to help let me know. I have just about every Marvel comicbook from the late 1950's up to the late 1960's that I saved as boy.

Wow Dennis, you sure picked a great time to be a boy! Kidding aside, I'm thrilled that you were able to hold on to all of those great comics for so many years. I hope they're still as enjoyable for you as the day you bought them.
I'll contact you shortly with the details on sending scans.
............. Philip :: 23 November 2003
Great project! As soon as you are ready to branch out to the DC monster stories, I can provide scans on a cd-rom. Also, if you want to use my article on Floating Head Panels, which is mostly based on stuff Jack Kirby did in the monster comics, I'd be honored. I can provide you with the text and the illustrations. Maybe I can even update it with a fuller list of Floating Head Panels in Jack's monster comics work.

Also, I have the Kirby Wood story in black and white from a british reprint.
............. Ger Apeldoorn :: 15 January 2004
Hi Phil. Any chance of getting these incredible never before reprinted Kirby monster stories on a CD-rom? It's great you have them availbale for us to enjoy on the net but I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind having the higher resolution scans on disk.
Either way, thanks a million times over for the tremendous effort of this Monster Blog.
As always,
Les
............. Les Toil :: 08 February 2004
Hey Les, you're welcome a million times plus one! As for the scans, they arrived at my desk the size you see them. There is no higher resolution to be had. As it is, they're rather legible and completely enjoyable. So enjoy!

I'm always looking to acquire scans of the comic books I own so as not to damage these treasures. Do you have a list of your complete scans which could be e-mailed to me? I am more than willing to remunerate anyone in their efforts to copy their files for me.

Hi Phil, If you still need scans of TO BUILD A ROBOT (WORLD OF FANTASY #18), THE DAY BEFORE DOOMSDAY (STRANGE TALES#99), and PRISON 2000 A.D. (STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #2), I have
these issues and would be happy to send them to you. The only problem might be the annual, which
may not lay flat enough for a decent scan. I'll try, but I don't want to risk damaging it. Let me know if
you're interested. Best, Brian Snyder
............. Brian Snyder :: 04 January 2005
Phil, John, and Brian: I have WORLD OF FANTASY #16, the original appearance of PRISON 2000 AD, which lays flat; I could send a scan of this to make sure Brian's annual is unaffected. I also have ASTONISHING #56, with “AFRAID TO DREAM,” another Atlas sci-fi/fantasy Kirby tale from '56. Please let us know if you are interested. I'm sure all visitors to Monsterblog would like to see more scans.
............. Neunder :: 05 January 2005
Phil: I emailed the scans of “Prison 2000 AD”, and also of “Afraid to Dream” from Astonishing 56 (Dec. 1956)—-it's from the same month some Kirby work for Yellow Claw appeared. I didn't send a scan of the Astonishing cover, for my copy's cover is damaged. Anyway, sorry all this took a week or two, but I don't own a scanner.
