FF #2 was the first high dollar book I ever saw for sale. Now, this wasn't just yesterday…it was in 1982. It was in small town in Oregon. I grew up in Roseburg (timber capital of the world..or so I was told) but I was visiting my first comic shop in Myrtle Creek. The fella in the shop had a copy of FF#2 for the unheard of price of 1000 dollars. Hard to believe back then, but that's how much he wanted. Well, that's about it for my review of FF2, never read it. BYE.

I still remember the first time I read FF#2. It was in Marvel Collectors Item Classics #1 back in 1965. In fact I read #2 long before I read or even saw issue #1. The artwork was so primitive but I still think it's one of the best early Marvel books. I really miss those chaptered stories. I still have MCIC#1 and was able to purchase a VG copy of FF#2 back in the 80's for $125.00.
p.s. The Skrulls were pretty stupid to fall for comic book clippings.

Anthony,
I grew up reading those early FF stories in MCIC, which was a true treasure for 25 cents. Although the stories were only 4-5 years old, they seemed ancient from the work generated by Kirby in the mid-1960s. It was truly the best of both worlds, seeing the “mature” Kirby alongside the “primitive” Kirby. I recall how ancient the Mole Man story from FF # l looked when it was reprinted in FF Annual (# 7, I believe). Still had a primitive charm, though.

Washington to have bigger role in FF2

Thanks for the link. Strange that they'd assume a larger role for Alicia might mean an appearance by the Puppet Master. Given Hollywood's penchant for bombast, my guess is that the Silver Surfer is going to come crashing through her window. The big FF fans out there among you will know EXACTLY which issue number, page and panel I'm talking about!
............. Philip :: 30 January 2006
Yo, Ronny! That's why I LIKED THE FF MOVIE! Marvel superheroes are as much about angst as action. And, that combo is what helped make the first two SPIDER-MAN movies such big hits.

I have heard from various people working pre production on Fantastic Four 2 that the role of the Silver Surfer is being offered to relative unknown Canadian actor Bruce James, who won't be unknown for long. He is one of the leads in Snakes on a Plane.

I own a low-grade copy of FF#2, and the major defect is that it's missing the pin-up of THE THING! When I bought it, the seller stated that it was complete, but after inspecting it, I found only the remnants of the missing pin-up page. Otherwise, my FF#2 is a decent reading copy. Since I bought the book for a bargain price, I kept it, even though it was incomplete. The SKRULLS are really powerful creatures, and a big challenge for the FF team. As other readers have stated, this is a primitive-looking FF team, in the pre-FF uniform days, but this book is still a great early issue. My previous copy of FF#2 had semi-brittle pages, so, being a hardcore FF fan, I just had to upgrade it. Someday, I might have enough cash to buy a low-grade copy that is complete with supple pages! These early issues of FF are getting very expensive, so I feel lucky just to own 99% of the early silver-age books. Alas, I'm still looking for a low-grade copy of FF#1, and I will find one, but for now, it's still missing-in-action!
............. Tom L. Becker :: 02 August 2006
Tom,
You should get yourself a copy of The FF Omnibus! It contains reprints of issues 1 - 30 including all pin-ups and letter's pages. Saves wear and tear on the originals!
