Meet... the Monster!

Diablo

History: When his home world became over-crowded, Diablo went on a dimensional voyage through time and space to find a new world to conquer. Finding Earth, Diablo appeared in the Sierra Madre montains. When the local inhabitants saw the gigantic, smokey creature, they thought him to be an evil spirit sent to them as a curse by the gods. Stories of the “smoke demon” reached an unnamed adventurer, who went on a search for Diablo. After finding the monster and hearing its threats of world conquest, the adventurer frightened the smoke creature into leaving the Earth by blowing away the smoke produced by the flame of his cigarette lighter.

In modern times, Xemnu The Living Titan/Hulk manufactured duplicates of five monsters, including a duplicate of Diablo, to fight The Incredible Hulk; the Incredible Hulk destroyed the Diablo duplicate.

Height: 30 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: Diablo was a sentient cloud of billowing, black smoke in a roughly humanoid shape. Because of the insubstantial quality of Diablo's form, any projectiles fired at him would pass through his body. Diablo could engulf living beings in the smokey mass of his body and choke them. Diablo communicated by mental telepathy.

Comment: “Diablo” is not to be confused with the villainous alchemist Diablo
introduced in Fantastic Four # 30, nor with the bear Diablo introduced in Tex Morgan # 8.

Comment: It is unknown if there is any connection between Diablo and Kraggoom.

Comment: “Diablo” is the Spanish word for “devil”.

Comment: It is unknown if Diablo's “Fifth Dimension” is the same “Fifth Dimension” ruled by Warlord Zemu (the Human Torch villain from Strange Tales # 103), or the “Fifth Dimension” seen in the story “Threat From the 5th Dimension” in Strange Tales #69 (art by Steve Ditko), or the “Fifth Dimension” of Mr. Mxyzptlk.
(On a related topic, in Amazing Adult Fantasy # 12, in the story “Something Fantastic?” (art by Steve Ditko) a magically-powered man from the “5th Dimension” visited the offices of Marvel Comics and met Stan Lee and Steve Ditko; was this man perhaps one of Mr. Mxyzptlk's people?)

Can A Comment Save the World?!?

I have it on good authority that Diablo and Kragoom are first cousins on their fathers side.

I can't help wondering how the Golden Age Vision would have fared, battling them? For the historically-impaired, the Golden Age Vision was one of Marvel's WWII superheroes. He kind of looked like DC's Martian Manhunter. And, he could sort of use clouds of smoke to teleport himself!

As revealed in Monster Hunters files, that unnamed adventurer was Ulysses Bloodstone.

Diablo shouldn't be confused with the Sub-Mariner villian El Diablo [Sub-Mariner Comics#39(4/55)].

i just read this story, broke the CGC case and read it,wow!!!!!!!…….man was this monster stupid,a ciggarette lighter?oh well, its a good case for smoking anyways,by the way i think that one of the other people who heard reports of this monster included one-time HULK villain DR. KONRAD ZAXON,in TALES TO ASTONISH#78,zaxon plotted to use the hulks gamma surplus to control the weather, and ''using such organic energy,i could even cause APPARITIONS to appear in the air……..which would give me control of primitive nations,by filling the superstitious natives with dread, and awe!!!!'' on page 9,panel 5,we see the ''apparition'' as zaxon envisions it,looks EXACTLY like the splash page of this story;so how does that add up?
