Meet... the Monster!

I Dream of Doom

History: In another dimension, a wicked magician named Sagurr was banished by the unnamed king of the land. As revenge, Sagurr used his magic to send the king to a nightmare world called “Earth”, where the king took on the identity of “Frank Atwill”. While on Earth, Atwill would constantly have nightmares of being stalked by a giant monster, but always woke up before being caught. These disturbing dreams gave Atwill a fear of falling asleep. Exhasted, Atwill went to see a doctor to help him with his condition. The doctor slipped Atwill a sedative, causing him to fall into a deep sleep. Captured by the monster, Atwill disappeared from Earth, and returned to his other-dimensional kingdom. The “monster” was revealed to be a robot built by the people to retrieve the missing king. The king returned to his throne, with memories of “Earth” becoming nothing but a fading nightmare.

Height: 6 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: “Frank Atwill” displayed no special powers.

Comment: Speculation - Perhaps Atwill's true home was in The Dream Dimension, the realm ruled by the dream demon Nightmare (first introduced in Strange Tales # 110).

Comment: Was Frank Atwill's home dimension perhaps connected to “the Land of Nowhere” dream-world that Jimmy Jupiter (introduced in Marvel Mystery Comics # 28) visited?

Comment: It is unknown if “Frank Atwill” has any connection to the other-dimensional alien known as “Sleepwalker” (introduced in Sleepwalker # 1)

Comment: In a related story, Strange Tales # 74, “I Was Trapped in the Nightmare World” (art by Paul Reinman), a man discovered that he travelled to another dimension when he fell asleep, to a realm he found nightmarish. The inhabitants of this dimension, on the other hand, found Earth to be a nightmare world. It is possible that this dimension was the Dream Dimension and also the home of “Frank Atwill”.

Frank Atwill could be turned into an amalgam of Jack Kirby's Sandman[Sandman#1(win/74)-6(12-1/75-76)]and Steve Ditko's Shade The Changing Man.

I don't know what they look like but one of the following Kings in the Jimmy Jupiter stories [ seen in Marvel Mystery comics#38(12/42),#40(2/43),41(3/43)-King Ra;#46(8/43)-Queen of Barnyard Valley's King;#48(10/43)-Queen Clara's King] could be “Frank Atwill”.
