Meet... the Monster!

King Linus

History: In Medieval Times, the kindly King Linus ruled his prosperous kingdom and was loved by all of his subjects. Linus had a hobby - clocks; one room in his castle where Linus would sit alone and relax was filled with timepieces. Linus's favorite clock was one which featured tiny human figures which would march around every hour. Linus's enemy, Claudius Zemu, wanted his kingdom, so he hired Klugari the assassin to kill Linus while he sat alone with his clocks. Klugari snuck up on Linus, but Linus saw Klugari's reflection in a mirror. Overwhelmed by the clocks deafening chimes as all the clocks struck the hour, Klugari found himself shrunken down to become one of the marching figures on King Linus's favorite clock.

Height: 5 ft. 6 in.
Demonstrated Powers: King Linus seemed to possess some type of supernatural power, as exemplified by Klugari's fate, although it is possible that the power was actually in the clock itself.

Comment: Speculation - The Timely Comics character known as Father Time (introduced in Captain America Comics # 6 (Sept. 1941)) was reintroduced in modern times in Captain America # 383, where it was revealed that he was one of the Elders of the Universe. Perhaps King Linus is the older Father Time living in the past. If Linus was one of the Elders (who possessed god-like powers), it would explain how he was able to trap Klugari.

Comment: Speculation - …or perhaps King Linus was once the Timely Comics character known as Tommy Tyme (introduced in Young Allies # 7 in 1943), who had a magical clock that allowed him to travel through time.

Comment: Given King Linus' love of time-pieces, could he have once been the owner of The Black Clock (introduced in Journey Into Mystery # 67)?

Comment: King Linus's rival, Claudius Zemu, should not be confused with Dr. Droom's enemy nor with the warlord from the Fifth Dimension.
(Possibly “Zemu” was a corruption of the name “Zemo”; perhaps Linus's enemy was related to Harbin Zemo (ancestor to Heinrich and Helmut).

The assassin Klugari wears a very distinct green hood, cape and frock - and from certain angles he looks a lot like that despot from Latveria: Doctor Doom.

Well, then, surely either King Linus' realm or that of his rival (neither country is named in the story) is Latveria, or both ancient kingdoms are now part of Latveria.

hmm…then I wonder if King Linus had a hand in helping Victor Von Doom create a fully functional time-machine.

I also notice that King Linus looks an awful lot like Doom's right hand man - Boris.
