Meet... the Monster!

Korilla

History: As a group captain of the fiercest warriors of his home planet, Korilla conquered the peaceful inhabitants of his own world. Fearing a rebellion where they could be overthrown by sheer numbers, the leader commanded his croup captains to find and conquer another planet to flee to in case of an emergency. Korilla, and at least three of his warriors, found Earth and set up base in an abandoned house. The aliens were preparing a potent, radioactive gas to use against Earthlings, but Korilla's plans were foiled by a cab driver. The leader punished Korilla's failure by gassing him and his warriors. Korilla, his warriors, and their equipment were all drawn into space by a ray.

Comment: Could the cab driver be the same cabbie who would one day unknowingly pick up the invisible Sue Storm in Fantastic Four # 1?

Neat, I remember reading it a long time ago. Korilla left me hoping that I would get some stats on his power potential. He looked impressive!

Korgilla was probably based on the chartacter of the “Beast” in the 1940's French fantasy file “Beauty and the Beast”.. but he looks alot more like the later creature from the Disney cartoon. Hmm…Could it be that someone at Disney reads Kirby Monster Comics?

By the way, Korilla and his fellows operated out of 1446 Elm Street.
The more famous Elm Street resident has 1428 Elm Street.

Oddly, the Hangman (Harlan Krueger) has the same last
name as Freddy Krueger. Originally I thought that the
name “Harlan Krueger” was coined for him by the Deluxe
Edition of the Handbook as a sort of joke (“Hey, he
kills people who make slasher movies, let us give him
the same last name as Freddy Krueger”.)

However, the original Handbook in 1983 also refers to
him as Harlan Krueger-one year before A Nightmare on
Elm Street came out in 1984. So it could not have been
a reference to NOES; however in the earlier Last House
on the Left, also directed by Wes Craven there was a
criminal named Krug. So Harlan Krueger's surname is
probably an homage to Last House on the Left. Also, an
Atlas story had a Freddy Kruger.
