Meet... the Monster!

Lo-Karr

History: By the “future” year of 1972, the Cold War had escalated. During a time of increased war tensions between the nations of the Earth, an unnamed scientist created a giant robot and had it address mankind. “Lo-Karr” threatened a coming invasion and the conquest of Earth. Seeing only one solution to the threat of “Lo-Karr”, the nations of the world united to work together and stand on guard. The scientist then destroyed the “Lo-Karr” robot because it had served its purpose: it had united humanity into peaceful brotherhood.

Height: 20 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: “Lo-Karr” was shown projecting energy beams from its eyes which were shown “melting” trees.

Comment: The theme of this story (fake alien invasion used to frighten mankind into peace and unity) would later be seen on “The Outer Limits” TV series episode The Architects of Fear, in the 1960's; this TV episode was also referenced in Alan Moore's Watchmen mini-series.

Comment: Another alien invasion hoax used to bring about world peace can be found in the story of The Invaders from the story “Invasion From Outer Space”.

It is possible that some of these alien-invasion-to-unite-humanity/bring-about-world-peace hoaxes take place on alternate Earths (how many times could everyone be fooled by this trick?)

Wait, there was an episode of The Outer Limits with this same plot! Which came first? And of course we can't forget Alan Moore's Watchmen for a later-day “scheme to create world peace with a fake alien invader” entry.

I believe The Outer Limits episode “The Architects of Fear” was from 1964; this episode was also referenced at the end of Watchmen.

Actually The Outer Limits episode “The Architects of Fear”
(the third show of the series) originally aired September 30, 1963

Hi,
This was one of the first Marvel stories I ever read in Fear # 4.
It is also one of the best.
Take Care,

Dear Editor,
It would be great if Lo-Karr could be reanimated as a crime fighter. Ifr he could fight invading monsters from off world, or even fight Titan from Atlantis.
I just loved the story and this charactor.
