Meet... the Monster!

Luther Worthington

History: As president of the Titanic Motors automobile company, the robotic “Luther Worthington” was the head of a successful business operation. One day, Worthington was visited by an eager young scientist named Dexter Scott whose goal was to have Worthington invest in his project to create the world's first thinking robot. Luther Worthington took Scott on a tour of his automated factory and did everything in his power to discourage Scott from his dream, showing Scott that machines were not capable of thinking creatively and would always need to be supervised by humans; in reality, Worthington didn't want any more robots built because he didn't need the competition of another robot.

Height: 6 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The android “Luther Worthington” was the CEO of the Titanic Motors company and a leading captain of industry, which showed that he was highly intelligent and had a good business sense for running manufacturing operations.

Comment: Speculation - Did the android “Luther Worthington” have any connection to the wealthy Worthington family, one member of which is Warren Worthington III?

Comment: Speculation - … or perhaps “Luther Worthington” had some connection to the Roxxon Oil Company, which would one day build the robotic Delphine Courtney (introduced in Alpha Flight (vol. 1) # 7).

Comment: Speculation - … or perhaps the mysterious creators of “Luther Worthington” were the same aliens who created the android Marvex the Super-Robot in Daring Mystery Comics # 3 (April 1940).

Comment: Speculation - … or “Luther Worthington” may have been built by Professor Phineas T. Horton (the creator of the original android Human Torch), Dr. James Bradley (aka Dr. Nemesis/Dr. Death, a member of the Battle-Axis and creator of the android Volton), or Professor Goettler, who created the android Dynamic Man in Mystic Comics # 1 (March 1940)?

Comment: Speculation - … or perhaps “Luther Worthington” may have been built by the android Mr. Kline (introduced in Daredevil # 78) as part of his agenda.

Comment: Speculation - Was Titanic Motors the automobile factory where the newly-formed Avengers battled Loki in Avengers (vol. 1) # 1?

Check out that model car behind Worthington; paint it black and it looks like Michael Keaton's Batmobile

I begin to like WORLDS OF FANTASY. This was a real neat tale. And yes, Id agree with the suggestion. To link this with Marvel continuity would be great!

I like the way the bad guy was dealt with in the end. He was given a just reward for his evil in an attempt to arrange a “murder” of the first android. I still say he is not Dr. Death/Dr. Nemesis.
I am glad that you as blog master are aware of some of my favorite charactors, namely Battle Axis. I hope they,Battle Axis, will all be rehabilitated someday.

Sorry I confused the two robot inventors. To amend the above comment I made thisman was dealt with in a more humane fashion than the other inventor mentioned on your page.
Perhaps the ceo was a left over of Dr. Death/Dr. Nemesis.

I think it more likely that “Worthington” was built by Roxxon as a figurehead for Titanic Motors. And, that Titanic Motors was probably a Roxxon subsidiary, in turn.*

* Cars? Oil? See the connection?

The “Encyclopedia Americana(2004-2005)vol.24” page 393-Science Fiction(Karol Capek's R.U.R. play—his robots are not the mechanical creations the term now brings to mind but are Androids, simulcra indistinguishable from humans. The Oxford English Dictionary vol.1 page 452—Android—Albertus Magnus(1727-51)is recorded as having made a famous Androides(Professor Albert Horton was named after him,Will Magnus too).1958 Spectator 19 Sept.379/1 Today SF must be more than a blood-and-sex day-dream spattered with words like Androids(robots made of flesh and bone).Androids are kissing cousins to Clones they are not toasters(aka Robots).

It's me again showing the differents between Androids and Robots. In Golden Age Of Marvel Comics vol.1(1997) reprinting Young Men Comics#24(12/53) page 4 panel 2 the original Human Torch says” he was Born in a Test Tube during the last World War”.In Avengers vol.1#81(10/70) page 15 panel 6 Goliath(Barton) says “I was an Avenger when you(the Vision) were a Buncha Chemicals in a Test Tube”.Book Of The Deluxe Edition#16(6/87) under Baron Zemo -page 15 (in collaboration with Arnim Zola (a Biochemist),Zemo created powerful Androids (if Androids are mechanical beings why would Zemo get the help of a Biochemist?).Fantastic four vol.1#15(6/63) the Awesome Android was created using Reed Richards notes on his DNA Experiment in creating an Artificial Life Form (if Androids are machines why would you use DNA?).Invaders vol.1#8(1976) page 3 panel 2 says the original Human Torch is “an Android with perfectly simulated flesh, bones and blood”.The “Who's Who and What's What In Science Fiction Film,Television,Radio and Theater” by Gene Wright (Bonanza Books,New York) on page 273 under R.U.R.(1921)-Karel Capek's Flesh-and-Blood Workers were created Chemically(page 18—created from Vats Of Chemicals),not mechanically,a life form that has since come to be known in science fiction as an Android.
