Temujai
History: In the 1950's, the world-conquering mastermind known as The Yellow Claw had a gigantic robot built in the form of the legendary figure “Temujai the Conqueror” for his plans for conquest. FBI agent Jimmy Woo and pilot Rocky Davis were sent to investigate, and their helicopter was grabbed from the sky by Temujai. The two men were captured by the Yellow Claw and locked up with Professor Knute Lindstrom, the creator of Temujai's “Flexus” skin. Lindstrom informed them that the “Flexus” was unstable and would disintegrate, leaving only the robot's powerless framework, thus ending the Yellow Claw's scheme.
Height: 1000 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: Temujai was operated by remote control by a human controller. Temujai's metal framework body was covered by a skin of “Flexus”, a substance which resembled human tissue and gave Temujai mobility. “Flexus” was composed of an unstable element which caused the substance to disintegrate.
Comment: Pilot Rocky Davis should not be confused with the Rocky Davis character who was a member of “The Challengers of the Unknown”, and was introduced in DC Comics Showcase # 6 in 1956 by Jack Kirby.
Comment: Did The Leader create a stable form of “Flexus” when he built his army of humanoid robots? In Tales to Astonish #'s 70 and 71, the Leader built a humanoid that was 500 feet tall; perhaps he got the idea from the Yellow Claw's use of Temujai.
Comment: Temujai's name is derived from Genghis Kahn, whose actual name was “Temujin”.

Look at the first page above. Does that say, “Jimmy Woo, SHIELD agent”?
If so, did Stan Lee use that as the base organization for the Nick Fury stories nearly a decade later?
............. Steven Edward Aanes :: 17 January 2004
No, in the original story, Jimmy Woo was an FBI agent; in the reprint, they wanted to tie it into the modern Marvel universe, so the story was relettered with this topical reference.

NOTE: Reprint page has now been replaced with original page, so Jimmy is now an FBI agent again

“Temujai”, of course, sounds a lot like Temujin, the personal name of Genghis Khan.
............. John M. Burt :: 29 March 2004
…and I recall reading once that Genghis Khan's name “Temujin” meant “iron man”; while Iron Man's enemy, The Mandarin, claimed that he was a decendent of Ghengis Khan. Weird how this stuff all connects together…

Sir,
Your web-sight is truely inspiring. Kirby's monsters are timeless, but today (6 13 2005) the only monster I can think about is named JACKSON. This is a a sad day for the state of human rights in the united states. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Maybe it's time to stop buyring your heads in the sand. Grow up and stop reading silly little childrens books.
I think Jack would agree

on a lighter note,temujai has a prototype in a golden age comic,that would be CHAMPION COMICS #16-17,in which our hero(but not for long,invaders fans!!!)the human meteor,battles a 50ft genghis khan with an electric sword,at the end,it too turns out to be a hoax,he also has fangs and a yellow complexion,thus an unintentional prototype from a stereotypical caricature,since the meteor is in continuity,i wonder if the claw stole his design for temujai from that?,or maybe he was inspired by the dragon of doom from CAPTAIN AMERICA#5? R&R.

Thor says in Incredible Hulk#283(5/83)”Thou dost say that yon creatures(Humanoids) are Grown as ures,Iron-Man?”.When I read about Flexo the Rubberman in the Appendix at the back of the Golden Age 2004 Handbook I saw him as a prototype Humanoid(his Shape even resembles the first Humanoid the Hulk fought).
