The Flying Saucer
History: An unnamed man was fascinated with reports of flying saucers and tried to solve the mystery of what they were. One day, a flying saucer landed by him. The alien telepathically communicated with him, mentally showing the man its home planet. Because of overpopulation on his home world, the aliens were scouring the universe for a planet suitable for colonization, a world with a similar atmosphere to their own. When flying near Earth, radiation from the sun weakened the aliens severely. Caught in the planet's gravitational pull, they were forced to land on Earth, but regained enough strength to leave during the night. The alien told the man he planned to leave that night, and asked the man to tell no one that he saw the alien until after the alien left. The man agreed, but asked the alien to let him see what he looked like before he left. The flying saucer revealed that IT had been the alien all along.
Height: 15 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The Flying Saucer was an electro-mechanical lifeform. It could communicate telepathically. The Flying Saucer was weakened by solar radiation from Earth's sun.
Comment: It is unknown if there is any connection between The Flying Saucer and the “techno-organic” lifeforms known as The Magus and “Warlock” (both introduced in The New Mutants # 18) or with the mechanical entity Skeletron (introduced in Quasar # 53).
Comment: This story would later be done as I Know the Secret of the Flying Saucer in Tales of Suspense # 11 (art by Steve Ditko).
