Meet... the Monster!

The Leprechauns

History: In an estate on a lonely English moor, two stepbrothers lived: the kind and generous Geoffrey Wickshire (who was blind) and the evil Edmund. Edmund had a scheme to eliminate Geoffrey so he would own the whole estate. One night, Edmund took Geoffrey for a walk on the moor, and let the blind man step into a quicksand pit. Geoffrey sank down into a Leprechaun village that existed below the quicksand. The Leprechauns were warm and friendly and were sincerely saddened by Geoffrey's blindness. They cast a spell which would heal Geoffrey's blindness in a week, but during that time he would have to remain in the Leprechaun village. Not wanting to worry Edmund, Geoffrey wanted to return home to let Edmund know where he would be. Rising out of the quicksand, the mud-covered Geoffrey entered the estate. Upon seeing what he thought was a vengeful ghost, the horrified Edmund backed out of an open window and fell to his death.

Height: 3 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The Leprechauns possessed magical powers, the limits of which are unknown.

Comment: Speculation - It is possible that there is a connection between the “Quicksand” Leprechauns and the Leprechaun Families of Cassidy Keep from X-Men #'s 102 and 103.

Comment: It is possible that Wee One (introduced in Marvel Comics Presents # 43) of the Irish supergroup The Kinsmen is related to these Leprechauns.

Comment: Leprechauns of a much smaller size can be seen in Amazing Adult Fantasy # 14 in the story “Beware the Giants!” (art by Steve Ditko).

Comment: This story is slightly reminiscent of an old E.C. Comics horror story.

According to the Saint Patrick's Day edition of History Channel, leprechauns worked as cobblers for the Sidhe (pronounced “shee”), a.k.a. trooping fairies.

OK,st.pattys is over get off this sight and back to the local denis leary concert, irishmen,(just kidding,I SALUTE YOU!!!),but, back on subject, you missed one possible connection,in STRANGE TALES#113,theres a story called ''THE SHOEMAKERS STRANGE ASSISTANTS'' with some impressive steve ditko art,(right after doing the first few, doctor srrange appearences, too)about an old man who is being blackmailed by a greedy loan shark,at the end its revealed that the old mans stories,he tells the local chidren, are true and the leprechauns shrink the evil loan shark down to their size,it was a cool story, one of the first ''old'' comics i ever read, reminiscent of both the ''tinkerer'' story in AMAZING SPIDERMAN#2 and the farnsworth story,i know this story is based off an old childrens folktale, and is about ELVES not leprechauns, but they look similar to the ones in the issue im discussing, and yeah, that ''shock-ending''AMAZING ADULT FANTASY''issue was a pisser, huh?,whatever ''QUICKSAND''is a superior story to the crappy''bully boy'' story thats also in this issue, and an AWESOME don heck story more than makes up for it. P.S:MIND TELLING ME WHAT E.C STORY?is it just the patented e.c ''CRAFTY MURDERER BRINGS AN IRONIC FATE UPON HIS/HERSELF'theme,or is there a specific issue?,i know alex ross modeled one of the mutant children in MARVELS off a deformed kid from an e.c story.
