The Meeks
History: The alien Meeks landed on Earth with gifts of advanced technology (robot laborers, super fuel-efficient cars, etc.) as a gesture of friendship to humanity. The world became a utopia with the new machines meeting all people's needs. TV reporter Walter Johnson became suspicious of the Meeks true intentions when he saw that people were growing soft and lazy, “like sheep being fattened for slaughter”. Johnson captured a Meek, and at gunpoint he forced the Meek to reveal the truth on national TV: The Meeks knew they could not conquer mankind by force, so they would conquer with their gifts; mankind would become weak and lazy by using the machine gifts, would have no ambition, and would therefore be easy prey for the Meeks. With the plan revealed, the military drove the Meeks from the planet.

Comment: The Meeks had a slight resemblence to The Swamp Aliens.
Comment: This story is slightly reminiscent to “The Twilight Zone” TV series episode To Serve Man, but without the horrific ending.
Comment: There is no apparent connection between the Meeks and Silvester J. Meek from the story “Meet Mr. Meek!” from Tales of Suspense # 36 (art by Don Heck).
