The Mutant Telepaths
History: In the 1950's, six mutants (five men and one boy) were put under the hypnotic control of the world-conquering mastermind known as The Yellow Claw. The mutants combined the force of their minds to warp reality and cause chaos. FBI agent Jimmy Woo intervened, releasing the mutants from the Yellow Claw's control, allowing the mutants to escape.
Years later, the mutants (whose aging process had been slowed due to being in suspended animation) reappeared, along with Tad Carter and Tobias Messenger (two mutant characters who were first seen in the story “The Man In the Sky” by Steve Ditko in Amazing Adult Fantasy # 14), and all were revealed to be part of Messenger's group, The Promise. “The Promise” went on to battle the original X-Men.
Demonstrated Powers: The six telepathic mutants had a combined IQ of 30,000 which gave them the god-like ability to control reality.
Comment: The six mutants displayed similar reality-altering powers as those displayed by Mutant X/Proteus when he fought the X-Men in X-Men #'s 125-128.
Comment: The six mutants also demonstrated powers similar to The Thought Master.

Wasn't there a similar group of reality warpers, who later took possession of the alien Eternal known as “Overmind,” in the pages of the original DEFENDERS?

No need to answer! I remember now. It was DEFENDERS (v.1) circa #101-06.
