The Screemies

History: The Screemies were supossedly an ordinary flock of sea gulls that were mutated by the radiation of atomic bomb tests into slightly humanoid forms. The world-conquering mastermind known as The Yellow Claw planned to use the Screemies to attack America, where they would pillage the nation's food supply to feed themselves. The Yellow Claw's plans were foiled by an American scientist who learned that the Screemies were intelligent and had their own form of primative civilization. The Screemies were taught the principles of farming so they could feed themselves, and sent to the Yellow Claw's secret island to establish their own society.

Wingspan: 36 in.
Demonstrated Powers: The Screemies had a slightly humanoid appearance (having arms and legs along with their wings) and a primative intelligence.

Comment: Speculation - Rather than being a random accident, the Screemies mutation could have been the result of an early experiment by The High Evolutionary (introduced in Thor # 134), a scientist who had a history of transforming ordinary animals into human-like forms.
