Meet... the Monster!

The Thing Called It

History: In Europe, Professor Heinrich Munch was notified of a scientific rival winning an award that Munch felt he should have won. Enraged and vowing revenge, Munch built a gigantic, plastic humanoid monster to destroy his rival. Frustrated by unsuccessful attempts to bring the monster to life, Munch dumped the huge plastic figure into the castle moat, where it sank into the quicksand. Some unknown chemical in the quicksand brought the monster to life. Covered in mud, the monster crawled out of the moat. It returned to Munch, who ordered the monster to destroy his rival, but the monster refused, having developed a sense of right and wrong. Munch ran to the nearest village and turned the villagers against the gentle monster. Returning to the castle, It was pursued by Munch for a final showdown. Through his own clumsiness, Munch fell off the castle roof. A lightning bolt struck the monster, transferring Its consciousness into Munch's body. The “new” Munch went on, vowing to live a better life.

Height: 20 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: It was strong enough to smash through stone walls.

Comment: “The Thing Called It” should not be confused with “It! The Living Colossus” (see Colossus), nor with It, the Silent One who fought the Sub-Mariner in Tales to Astonish # 92, nor with the swamp monster It from the story written by author Theodore Sturgeon (which was adapted in Supernatural Thrillers # 1), nor with Cousin Itt of the Addams Family.

I was glad to see that justice was done in the end. The evil scientist was sanctioned.
