The Weed
History: During the operation of an atomic gun at a nuclear testing center, the device exploded. A minute cloud of radioactive dust escaped the building and drifted to the estate of millionaire Lucius Farnsworth. The cloud came to rest in the garden. The deadly radiation killed off the nearby plant life, but one of the flowers did not die. Instead, it mutated into a horrible weed which developed an intelligence and a lust for power. The next morning, Farnsworth discovered the ugly Weed in his garden. Picking up some garden shears, Farnsworth was about to snip off the plant, but was overpowered by the Weed's thought impulses which paralyzed him. Telling Farnsworth that it would enslave all of mankind when its powers reached full strength, the Weed ordered Farnsworth to sleep, while it, too, would sleep to allow its great powers to increase. As Farnsworth (and the Weed) slumbered, George (Farnsworth's simple-minded gardener) saw the Weed, thought it was only an ordinary weed, and snipped it off, unknowingly ending a threat to the world.
Height: 3 ft.
Demonstrated Powers: The Weed was a sentient plant with very limited powers of movement. It had great intelligence and telepathy. The Weed could overpower others mentally, and could paralyze them or command them to fall asleep. The Weed's main weakness was that it was dependent on being rooted in the soil which sustained its life. The Weed was killed before its powers reached their full potential.
Comment: It is unknown if there is any connection between the Weed and “The Killer Weed” which fought The Golden-Age Vision in Marvel Mystery Comics # 20 (July 1941) and # 26 (December 1941) (art by Simon & Kirby).
Comment: It is unknown if there is any connection between the Weed and the H'ylthri - the sentient plant race living in the dimension of K'un-Lun (introduced in Iron Fist (vol. 1) # 2)

Maybe, the Weed was being prepared as a host-body for the astrally-projected mind of an H'ylthri scout? It would certainly explain Jack Kirby's Green Thing, as well.

My brother had this comic when we were kids. He used to tease me and call me The Weed. Nice to see it again.

The inspiration for the ” weed ” illustrations were from my little sister's ” big hair ” that she had in 1962.

Why does ” The Weed” make teens from the 60's want to have big hair and attach frozen orange juice cans to their heads ?
Does anyone know the answer ?.

I always thought that the title “Save Me From The Weed!” sounded like it was a double-feature movie with “Reefer Madness”.

The Killer Weed is called The Plant Man(Marvel Mystery Comics#20(6/41) click Marvel Mystery Comics after Golden Age Vision).killer Weed is a vegetable vampire(i am hoping that means that he is like alien in the movie The Thing(1951) who needed blood to survive not sunlight or water like other plants.
