Dear Editor,
This story was a forerunner to the Indiana Jones series. A professor who is seen as a wimp goes on a summer sabbatical. He befriends a “monster” giant. He ends up helping the so-called monster.
The monster is a poor native mutated by comrades who at the hight of the cold war experimented with the bomb.
A man has no greater love than he lay down his life for a friend. This saying was proven true by the “monster” saving the professor. When the natives mistakenly credit the professor with killing Kraa and build a statue to his honor the students are very impressed with his face on the cover of the magazine.
I thought it was great.
Take care,
Bob T.

this story is considered to be somewhat of a hulk prototype since kraa's origin is almost exactly the same…read this one years ago, but didn't make the connection 'til reading about it in wizard

An interesting story. The African man turned into monster does not speak in the sterotypical native language, but in proper english. A nice little story that taught a lesson of understanding and respect in a simple way. The teacher was a character that had compassion and sought to help the “monster” when he understood his problem. A forerunner of the soon to appear misunderstood heroes like the Hulk.
