I find it interesting that the Kirby & Ayers team gave us this character prior to the Hulk rising to prominence.

Bruttu was an interesting variation on the same theme that gave us Hulk, Leader, and Abomination.

Bob,

I agree that this character has many elements similar to the Hulk. Man turning into monster; the monster meaning no harm. etc, although this monster did not have the ability to speak. Still, one could see the direction they were going in. I don't know if I'd use the word prototype, but forerunner is accurate, I believe.
