We Found the Ninth Wonder of the World
7 pages :: Jack Kirby/Christopher Rule
reprinted in Weird Wonder Tales 4

“I-It's gigantic!” “It's unbelievable!” It's… a turtle.
Kirby's begins his legendary run of monster stories with a simple tale reminiscent of Mysterious Island with a dash of King Kong.
There's something in the fog! Dead ahead!
This seven-pager features the search and rescue of Doctor Parker — “a forgotten man in forgotten waters” — from the clutches of angry natives on an unknown island.
The poor doctor is responsible for his predicament, however. His scientific experiments have produced giants that are wreaking havoc on the local economy!
He was the size of my palm then — but now — well, you'll see
Using growth hormones run amok, the doctor has caused sea life to grow to colossal proportions and break everything in sight. His rescuers, Professor Briggs and Captain Kane, have lost their ship to one of these unfortunate monstrosities.
The doctor and his rescuers escape with their necks intact and whisk away on the doctor’s hidden speedboat. As they speed off, they spy the largest creature — a turtle called Experiment XYZ.
But then I thought of the damage it could do…
The narrator, Captain Kane, muses about the riches awaiting him if he brings one of these creatures back home. But in the end, he's feeling fortunate that these nightmarish creatures are so far away from the good ol’ U S of A.
