Hi, I've found a copy of Tales To Astonish 20 June “X” - the Thing that lived!! How would I know if this was an original or reprint? If an original, then what sort of price would I be looking at? Many thanks, Phil

I WAS HUNTED BY X, THE THING THAT LIVED! What a great issue of Tales to Astonish. It reminded me of another story featured in the 1st issue of DC's Tales of the Unexpected. I like the X story a lot better. The Marvel monsters & super-heroes couldn't be beaten by the competition in the late 1950's & early 1960's. I bought a lot of DC comic books at that time, but the Marvel pre-superhero & later superhero comic books were the best in my opinion. I always liked DC's BATMAN, THE FLASH, SPACE RANGER & so forth, but nothing compared to the early issues of the FANTASTIC FOUR, the INCREDIBLE HULK, THOR, IRON-MAN & the rest of those silver-age legends. I will never forget my childhood days, walking into a drug store or a market, and gazing up at the Marvel pre-superhero comic books on the rack, always featuring some monster on a rampage. Those books were like magnets for me, and I always spent my allowance on them, which wasn't too much back in those days. My house wasn't too close to the comic book vendors, so I always had a chance to study the comic book covers on the way back home. I always ran into my bedroom, shut the door, laid down on the floor, and read the comic books again & again. My parents were convinced that those comic books were warping my mind, and that I would grow up to be a twisted adult, but that never happened to me. If anything, my comic book hobby made me a much better reader than my non-comic book reading friends, and that's a fact. I still read my comic books today, but alas, in these days of Ebay & comic book conventions, the price of owning comic books is a big investment. I'm just happy that I grew up in the silver-age of comic books, so that I could buy a great comic book like Tales to Astonish #20 for a couple of nickels!
